Our morning view was lookin' awesome!! So we decided to finally scratch something off of our Sioux Lookout Bucket list......climb Sioux Mountain...
We made a pit stop at the Sally Ann...so Christina and Susy could finally get mugs for their tea that suited their needs :).... amount spent .50 NO BIG DEAL
We parked at the funeral home and made our way down to the train tracks....Christina once again...going "Mach 20" as little fox would say.....The middle picture shows how huge the ravens are...note to self...do not leave garbage bags outside of the cabin...side note to viewers, these big nasty's like to eat antihypertensives and insulin...so watch yourself....and oh look there's a plane Christina caught a shot of it just in time (Sara's feet were freezing, and Susy's legs were freezing as we were both up to our thighs in snow during this shot...you're welcome viewers)
We wanted to get a shot of all three of us, and thanks to Christinas gogo gadget arms...it turned out perfect :)
This is a view of our destination...BUT see the really snowy part...right after the bridge? That's where we ended up...and we thought we were on the top...until we walked back and realized...we for sure were not...just means we need to make another trip!
Time to get onto those train tracks...and all of us had our ears peeled for a train coming either way...a co-worker had told us there is a part on the middle of the bridge that you could stand in while a train went by....lucky enough we never ran into a single train our whole walk :)
Getting closer.....
And closer.......
almost to the bridge...and OH HEY CABIN there you are!!! you little cute thing you
Just before getting onto the bridge, Susy took this amazing shot of the water that had the reflection of the trees in it....such a little photographer she is!
So...Sara took this picture...and when she uploaded it...Christina and her laughed their butts off...."What in the world are you doing Christina"......"I must be fixing my hat," yeaaaaaaaah right you put your arms up because you got a cramp ;) just kidding bro
There was a lot of graffiti on the bridge...most of it too inappropriate to post...but this picture really makes you wonder what this person was thinking the time they wrote it
Just taking Sears catalog portraits on the bridge, living the dream...the northern dream...haha
Awesome pictures of the bridge...although...it was quite scary and felt like it was going to fall apart...but we were pretty sure none of us would fall through...I don't think we weigh as much as a train...or at least I hope not
The water is always open under the bridge..you cannot see it in the picture...but steam rises from this every day (the second picture in this blog posting shows you this exact spot with the steam)
Someone proposed...on this bridge...or that's what we would like to think happened...how friggin' cute
Warning: If you are afraid of heights..turn around...to viewers scroll down quickly..
Annnnd we finally made it across...but we started walking the tracks...wondering where the heck the trail was that everyone was talking about!!
So we walked a bit too far....turned around...and climbed a less steep...but still very steep part of the mountain...
Halfway to the quarter way mark...haha that we actually thought was the top....silly girls..mountains are for athletes
Almost there....Sara was pooping her pants the whole way up....although no one really wanted to play rolley polley down the mountain
And we were not lying...the side of this mountain was so steep....all of us wishing we were rabbits..as this fella didn't seem to be phased at all
ALMOST THERE!! well not really but you know what we mean!!
Sooo close girls keeeeep a truckin'
ANNND we made it!! ANNND Sara thinks shes a bird!!
And now they're both laughing because Sara feels safe..well sort of haha
This is where we should of kept walking...but we didn't...the sky was starting to cloud, and although this looks pretty..there was no sun..it started to get a bit windy...and we were cold
Christina and Sara, so happy to finally make it!!
Just take a look at this view...maybe next time we go, it will be much better...but still...breath taking...Sioux Lookout you still amaze us
Time to take some selfies...don't judge..you know you would do this too!
Sioux Lookout...hahaha... Get it?
And we started to make our way back down... as we recall Sara saying..."This is the only time that I have ever wished I had diabetic neuropathy..specifically so I cannot feel how frozen my feet are."
Sara did not wear her snow pants...because last time she was sweating buckets with them on and felt like she was carrying 50 pounds...but since we are going again, she is going to wear them so she won't get cold on a longer hike...the bonus of her not wearing her snow pants...SUSY BECAME A HUMAN SLED...HAHA just sliding down the mountain...
This is what Sara's face looked like after making dinner, working on the blog..and watching Christina and Susy do...... (scroll down)
HOMEWORK....YUCK (Sara's was already completed...so Deryck would not message Susy about the blog posting not being up..haha Just kidding)
And Sara's very unhealthy but delicious dinner...with the help of Christina cutting up the sweet potato wedges :)....that is all folks...until next time...stay safe...behave...and wait for the next post :D
Beauty of a post, ladies. Lots of great shots and well-narrated, too. ;-)
ReplyDeleteThanks for the update. Looks like your Northern Adventure is proceeding to plan.
Sara, I love the orange jacket on you - I hope it kept you warm enough. Do you have splash pants? I'll try to get you some.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful pictures and blog writing. How long did this part of the hike take? I am sure going to the top would have added 3 or more hours to the adventure so maybe it's good you just stopped there. I hope you inform people of these crazy outings before you leave so they know where to send the search parties - just in case;)
Search parties or a St. Bernard with a flask of brandy at least. ;-)
ReplyDeletetrue, Deryck - much less embarrassing and so much more enjoyable ☺
ReplyDeleteThis is very impressive! keep the updates coming!
ReplyDeleteGlad you all seem to have enjoyed and learned from your Northern adventure.
ReplyDeleteNothing left now but to come home safe and sound.
Drive carefully.
